Week 7- Skirt 3- Mix wool and Leathette

Mixed wool, peppermint park suiting 5 pound a meter

This week was lisas turn to choose the material. She chose Mixed wool. This was by far the worst material i have come across in my 19 years of living. The material fell apart in my hand. It was really fragile and was more suitible to be used for items such as scarfs.
I did try my best and attempt it but i failed to make this work. I was finding that the material was fraying and wasting. Due to the fact that i only brought 1 meter as this was a skirt i was having second thoughts, if i could do anything differently i would next time by at least 2- 3 meters. I was left with minimal material and therefor the only thing left for me to do was mix it with a heavier stronger material. I chose to use leathertte. This was because i really liked the texture and look of it. Black leatherret always make a garment look a bit more pricey.

I made a waist jacket and a pencil skirt because i wanted the model to have a complete outfit.

So far i think this has been my most suxxesful piece, i am really learning a lot and enjoying the step by step process, this module is really developing my skills.

Week 6- Trouser(2) Silk Satin

This week we where told to use red silk satin chosen by  matthew. He was not able to get me the fabric on time due to financial reasons. So i drew out my pattern which was a basic slim leg trouser pattern, I then cut one long pannel going down each leg.

As I waited for matthews red satin i decided to use  black jersey fabric as my main material because i did not was to have to make the trousers last minute due to not having the material. The reason for me cutting out the pannel was to add matthews red silk satin.. I felt that the jersey fabriic was a more suitiable fabric for the trousers anyway as it allows the body to move freely.

This pattern was nice and straight forward but just a bit time consuming

Overall i really like these trousers. they gave me the confidence to explore  more with different materials.
overall rating 6.5/10

Cut Basic Block

Added Pannels to create my own pattern.

Cut Pattern out and pinned it together

Sewed my pattern together.

Attatched the back to the front.

Did the same for the other leg

Added a waistband for perfect fit

Disadvantages
  • I did not overlock my gaarment
  • I did not streatch my waistband enough as i was sewing it on
  • The material ripped (giving it a blunt needle affect) because it was not good quality.( If streatched to much it would just tear.

Week 5- Dress(2) Shiffon

This week Anna chose to buy the group polyester. The polyester was thin Metalic and had a shine to it.

When anna gave out the material, my first thoughts where "well doen anna" it was pretty especially for a dress. I could not wait to go home and make this garment.
Once i started this Garment i my attitude toward it changed, i found it a bit hard to sew and it kept fraying levaing me with little seam allowance.

"I HATED IT"

I had to change the top of my garment into another material for this to work.

Me admiring my dress after the show.

Overall i was satisfied with this dress. It looked like a prom dress and was attarctive.
I would not work with this mateial again it was to thin and kept fraying.
